Our client is a provider of infrastructure support solutions to the wireless industry.
- The GSM Customer Support Engineer will provide technical GSM / GPRS and IP support for our client's product to current and future customers globally.
- Part of a growing team, based in the US, with the backing of the main global support group based out of the United Kingdom.
- The position reports to the Customer Support Manager for the Americas.
Description
- Provide remote technical support to customers
- Provide on site installation and commissioning of the BSS
- Provide technical support to both internal and external customers
- Generation of customer documentation
- Provide hands on or class room based customer training
Responsibilities
- Key contacts internally are the US and UK based support team, System test engineers, based in the UK and the Sales / product managers, who are UK, US and Asia based.
- This position also requires a very strong customer relationship at all levels from field engineers to senior management.
Key Relationships
- Working under pressure
- Knowing extensive GSM / GPRS and IP networking that you can quote most message sequences and procedures without reference to the specifications, but if you do, you know the specification to look at.
- Willingness to get up and do something, day or night / there and then, to fix a problem and then if needed jump on a flight.
Key Challenges
- Degree in Technology or Telecommunications and Technology. Classes or thesis covering Wireless networks protocols or Telecommunications networks are advantages
- 3+ years experience in a customer support / test engineer role for a GSM / CDMA network operator or telecom equipment supplier is desirable.
- Strong customer focus and a self motivation to achieve
- In-depth knowledge of GSM and/or WCDMA system, from high-level system functionality to the physical messages on the various internal and external interfaces
- Hands on IP Networking and configuration
- Good working knowledge of Voice over IP technologies
- Knowledge of the design & development product life cycle
- Good written and spoken skills, flexible working approach, self-starter.
Qualifications
- Linux / Unix System administration
- RF network planning & optimization of indoor systems
- Performing customer training
- CCNA
- BSC and / or MSC installation, configuration and test
Desirable Skills (minimum 3 of 5 required)
25% Travel

Compensation: 85 – 90K
