Job Description
Responsible for the specification, evaluation, and development of consumer electronics products, which meet or exceed the product features, performance, cost and schedule.
- Serve as the engineering representative on the New Product Development (NPD) team(s) for the assigned category(ies). Work together to develop and deliver new products within specified technical, cost and schedule requirements.
- Establish and maintain the following documents defining the performance and operation of assigned products including, but not limited to: Detailed Technical Specifications (DTS); Software Design Guide (Microprocessor program flowchart); Accessory specifications including external speakers, microphones, batteries, chargers, etc.; Quality Control Procedures (QCP); Specifications for any required specialty or critical components
- Communicate with the vendor, outside suppliers or contractors of assigned products to resolve all issues related to Product Development including, but not limited to: Product features; Industrial design; Electrical performance; Mechanical fit, finish, and appearance; Regulatory agency submissions and approvals; Software/firmware performance; System feasibility
- Evaluate performance of samples supplied by the vendor and assist the vendor in making the necessary circuit and software revisions to meet or exceed specifications.
- Search for new technologies, components or processes that may be applied to the Company product lines to provide improved performance, new features and reduced cost.
- Organize necessary work and records to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision. Track progress against schedule and inform the Engineering Manager and Project Management of any potential issues related to schedule or resources.
- Work with Marketing staff to develop new models and features for appropriate product line.
- Use engineering accepted (and verifiable) measurement techniques and equipment for all evaluations. Make recommendations for required maintenance, calibration or replacement of test equipment.
- Assist and support other departments as necessary including Sales and Marketing, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, etc.
- Perform special projects or other duties, as required, to assist department and the Company in achieving its goals and objectives
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- A minimum 5 years experience with Radio Frequency or microwave transmitters and receivers
- Good working knowledge of instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and RF power measurement techniques
- Knowledge of electronic file exchange techniques for text, engineering drawings and images
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self starter and ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all sensitive business/technical information
- Proficient skills in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software
- The ability to travel overseas, as needed.
Qualifications
Compensation: 85 – 90K + benefits
