Lead Engineer - Consultant

Served as a lead engineer for the company's IT & Telecommunications projects and standards development.  For new equipment or systems, setup and performed the qualification lab tests and configuration tests, devised and wrote the application recommendations, and the system test plan and instructions.  Managed LAN/WAN and Telecommunications projects to completion.  Initial project engineering included defining requirements and estimating the project costs.  Engineering actions included, as required, establishing network usage, planning and investigating communications needs with the customers, and formulating consolidation, redundancy, and protection approaches.  Designed the communication solutions and maintained accurate electronic records for the configuration of all systems and sites; and the individual voice, data, and video communications projects.

  • Estimated and engineered the Communication Center construction and cutover at two very large primary sites for Progress Energy.  These sites required IP Data Communications, SONET, DACS, and leased line systems.  Cutover was very successful and within budget.
  • For the IP based 900 MHz Trunk Land Mobile Radio System, engineered the Remote Operator's sites and access node connections.  Usage of the system continues to grow.
  • Contracted with outside manufacturing and PC board design vendors for special equipment development and manufacturing.  The special equipment enabled joining two types of data into one data stream yielding over a million dollars in savings.
  • Engineered a special on-net Frame Relay switched system.  System had to meld smoothly in network management with the off-net sites.
  • Given responsibility for managing and maintaining documentation and white papers communicating the Disaster Recovery methodology and protocol requirements of the primary data streams constituting the company's revenue.  These data streams (termed TSCADA) are critical to satisfying Federal requirements and calculations of revenue.
  • Engineered and assisted in the installation of multiple 900 MHz radio and antenna systems.  Variously these were fixed frequency or spread spectrum.
