Job Function:

The Lead Hardware Engineer will be in charge of the design of hardware products. This position will have a leading voice in the development of electronic hardware, outlining the desired quality, complexity and risks given the schedule and features of each design. The Lead Hardware Engineer will be responsible for new product design, hardware performance and maintenance of exciting products, as well as contribute to new research and development tasks. This position will also support the software team in testing new software releases as well as customer support and marketing teams to respond to customer enquiries.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the hardware development of leading edge technology related to near-field electromagnetic measurement equipment.
  • Working with managers and engineers, this position will lead system requirements, technical specifications, and designs including the hardware, software, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing and marketing needs to ensure a clear understanding of the direction of development.
  • Be the technical lead in system, module and board level architecture of electronic hardware modules and circuits.
  • Research new technology to improve system quality and capability
  • Be aware of the customer perspective and make external quality a top priority
  • Report to management about scope, schedule and status of major development project
  • Support R&D Manager in project management and task priorities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Technology
  • 10 years of experience developing high speed digital and RF systems up to 20 GHz
  • A well rounded technical level of knowledge on all hardware related technologies including DSP, FPGA, RF high speed digital, power management, as well as communication protocols such as SIP, I2C, SerDes, Host bus, USB, and Ethernet.
  • 5 years of experience creating requirements, design and testing documents at the system, module and circuit level.
  • 5 years of experience as a technical lead supervising at least 3 people
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot hardware designs using network analyzers, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscopes, signal generators and other electronic lab test equipment.
  • Extensive experience with the complete hardware development cycle from requirements development through to certification and manufacturing release.

  • You must be able to communicate design concepts, technical and process issues to different personalities within the R&D team, manufacturing and administrative staff. To be successful, you must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills within a team environment.
  • Our client is a small company and this opportunity will allow you to participate in many other areas of the business allowing you to flex other skill sets. You may be asked to assist Engineers, Managers and other staff with various tasks outside the standard technical expectation of a Lead Hardware Engineer. The hours will vary depending on the deadlines at the time and the workload assigned. This is a full-time position that can start immediately once we find the right candidate.
