Company Description:

Our client is an independent telecommunications company with over a 70 year history of serving their market in Texas. They provide broadband, cable, wireless and telephone services.

Position Overview:

The DOT makes all executive decisions with regards to the technological interests of the company. Responsible for outlining the company’s technological vision, implementing technology strategies, and ensuring that the technological resources are aligned with the company’s business needs.

Lead the company’s technology decisions, including managing a technology budget and making investments to align the company with their vision for its technological needs. Strategic thinker, an effective communicator and an expert in technological development.

Works directly under the CEO and will act as both a technology and business expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting a vision for how technology will be used in the company
  • Ensuring that the technological resources meet the company’s short and long-term needs
  • Outline the goals for research and development
  • Creating timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services
  • Making executive decisions on behalf of the company’s technological requirements
  • Acting as a mentor to Technical and Engineering team members
  • Maintaining a consumer-focused outlook and aiding in the delivering of IT projects to market
  • Managing technology budgets and time frames
  • Staying on top of technology trends and developments
  • Ensuring all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards

Requirements:

  • Strong engineering and network design experience as well as entrepreneurial/business development skills. This position will be responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all IT/Broadband/Business Services/Network-Engineering functions. This includes directing all technology operations to meet growing customer base as well as the support and maintenance of existing infrastructure and development of new technical solutions and business opportunities.
  • Solid command of network architecture, monitoring and planning as well as a strong grasp of leading network security and engineering.
  • Ability to demonstrate hands on experience, especially working with Networking equipment across many vendors.
  • Excellent management and communication skills, ability to develop long-term plans and an innovator who can generate new ideas and bring them to market efficiently using best practices and delivering solid business results.
  • Responsible for outlining the company’s technological vision, implementing technology strategies, and ensuring that the technological resources are aligned with the company’s business needs.
  • Identify and implement key areas for improvements
  • Collaborate with peers within the Management Unit and other groups on cross-functional projects
  • Work independently as well as under the direction and guidance of the executive management team, to lead and work on team projects
  • Develop and maintain technical competencies

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • BS in an Engineering field – Computer Science, Computer Engineering or comparable experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years network engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnets, routing, access control lists, security, firewalls and network traffic analysis.
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, and Brocade network devices. Alcatel-Lucent experience desired.
  • Configuration of OSPF, BGP, SNMP, L2/L3 VLANs
  • Understanding of Telco transport hierarchy DS0-1-3, STS, OCN, and Ethernet backhaul
  • Wide Area Network Telecommunications: Cisco routers, Juniper MX routers, QoS, MPLS
  • Experience with Cable TV Headend equipment, the supporting networks, and the overall architecture
  • Network tools such as Cacti, IPAM, Netflow tools, Rancid, protocol analyzers
  • Systems Administration: Unix & Linux network tools, Rancid.
  • Authentication services: Radius, TACACS/TACACS+, Cisco ACS
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must be able to effectively communicate to the executive level and with external vendors.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong sense of ownership
  • Strong documentation skills for network diagrams, test plans and other related records
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Organizational and mentoring skills
